Sports & Remedial Massage
Our sports massage and myofascial treatments ease pain, release tension, and restore natural movement. Sports and remedial massages work on muscles to improve function and recovery, while myofascial release targets connective tissue to address deeper restrictions, with sessions tailored to your body.
What to Expect
Every massage treatment begins with a personal consultation, so that we can understand your specific concerns and goals.
Your massage therapist will use a combination of techniques to release tension, improve mobility, and restore function.
Whether you need targeted work on a problem area or a more general treatment, sessions are always adapted around you.
Sports & Remedial Massage
Sports and remedial massage sessions are tailored to focus on a specific issue or area of your body, using soft tissue techniques and muscular manipulation to restore balance and function.
Our skilled therapists palpate tissues and feel restrictions, torsions and stagnant areas, working to support the symptomatic areas and release primary and secondary tensions throughout the body.
A 30-minute session is ideal if you need focused work on one problem area, while a 45-minute session is best for more all-around muscle pain and dysfunction.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a gentle yet highly effective technique that works with the connective tissue (fascia) that wraps around muscles, tendons and organs in a web-like network throughout the body.
Fascia restrictions can cause pain, tension and dysfunction, often in areas distant from the source. By gently unravelling these restrictions, myofascial release helps the body let go of long-held patterns, easing pain and restoring natural movement.
Because this method works deeply and takes time, sessions last 60 minutes. Unlike traditional massage, the focus is on assisting the body to release and heal itself.
Sports & Remedial Massage FAQs
What’s the difference between sports massage and remedial massage?
Sports massage focuses on releasing tight muscles, improving circulation and preventing injury, while remedial massage is more therapeutic and targeted towards specific problem areas.
Both approaches are available at The Movement Base and can be tailored to your needs with our expert therapists.
Do I need to be an athlete to book a sports massage?
No, not at all. Sports massages are not just for athletes and can benefit anyone who experiences muscular tension, poor posture or everyday aches and pains.
Many of our long-term clients book these massages to complement their Pilates training and mobility.
Can your massages help with back pain or posture issues?
Yes, they certainly can and will help. A good sports and remedial massage can reduce tension in overworked muscles, improve alignment, and relieve discomfort from back pain or postural problems.
Combined with Pilates classes, it can be especially effective to get your body in the best shape and condition possible.
How often should I book a massage?
This really depends on your goals, and we will be happy to discuss this with you at any time.
For general wellbeing, a monthly massage works very well, while those training intensively or managing ongoing pain may benefit from more regular sessions.
Your therapist will advise on the best routine to achieve your desired outcomes.
Do you combine massage with Pilates for rehabilitation?
Yes. Many clients use massage alongside Pilates classes at our studio to aid recovery, improve mobility and reduce the risk of injury.
Others simply enjoy the wellbeing benefits that professional massages can provide.
